'Have you Herd?' GAC tapes George Strait Team Roping Classic for broadcast

Program to highlight second passion of the multi-talented artist
San Antonio, TX -- (March 10, 2006) -- Television network Great American Country (GAC) is rounding up the excitement of team roping when it delves deep into the non-musical passion of platinum recording artist George Strait and his family during a special taping of the 24th annual George Strait Team Roping Classic (GSTRC) in San Antonio, Texas, March 10 and 11.

The special, which airs March 29 at 9 pm ET, will feature Strait and family competing and talking about their passion of team roping. Fans unfamiliar with the sport can learn more courtesy of the program's informational features which explain the rules, familiar concept and enthusiasm of its participants. Cowboy Baxter Black will appear in the special to give his take on team roping and breaks in between the competition will be provided by a collection of Strait's hit music videos.

"GAC is still very committed to being the number one source for country music," said Sarah Trahern, senior vice president of programming for GAC. "However, we thought our viewers would enjoy a chance to spend quality time with George Strait and his family indulging in his off-stage passion."

Originally conceived 24 years ago by George and his brother, Buddy, as a small competition for friends and family, the GSTRC has become the premiere open in the sport with hundreds of thousands of dollars up for grabs each year. As an open roping, ropers of all levels may compete alongside each other for a chance at the big winnings. Three time world team roping champion and the returning defending GSTRC champion Allen Bach will participate in the San Antonio festivities.

"My goal is, and has always been, to make the GSTRC the best roping out there. I won't be satisfied until I know it is," said George Strait. "Partnering with GAC will add to the prestige we have received in the roping community and allow my fans to see me in a different role from what they are used to."
GAC is available locally on San Antonio Time Warner channel 238 and nationally on DIRECTV and Dish Network.
