November 28, 2006--The Tennessean reports that the new album Porter Wagoner is recording will include a song Johnny Cash wrote for him years ago.
Porter is in the studio this week with his producer, Marty Stuart, creating a new Anti-Records' album to be called Wagonmaster. It will be released in May to help celebrate Porter's 50th anniversary in the industry.
In 1981, when Marty was touring with Johnny in Europe, they listened to Porter's albums together. One day, Marty says, "John said, 'I have a song for Porter.' He put it in an envelope and said, 'Give this to Porter.' I forgot about it until this year."
Marty found the copy of the song, "Committed to Parkview," about six months ago in his warehouse. "I took it to Porter's front door and said, 'Johnny Cash said to give this to you.'"
"We are doing an unapologetic, hard-core country record," Marty says of the new album. "We are bringing the Wagonmaster's sound into the 21st century."
