December 18, 2006 The Tennessean asked readers to submit stories of random acts of kindness for a contest honoring Brian Williams, a banker who helped many country artists before they achieved success. The winner, Brent Young, told of an encounter he had with Randy Travis.
Three years ago, Brent was moving all of his belongings from Atlanta to Nashville when his rental truck blew a tire on the interstate. He had only three hours to pick up his apartment keys before the rental office closed. A new truck was sent, but only the driver was there to help him move three bedrooms of furniture from one truck to the other.
As they were standing by the truck, Randy Travis' tour bus stopped. Randy and five others reloaded everything in 30 minutes. "The driver, named D.J., said, 'Just continue down the road of helping others. It's the little bits of good put together that keep everyone moving along the road of life." Brent arrived 10 minutes before the office closed.
Brent will receive a Waterstone Guitars' Bobby-O electric guitar, which was created in honor of Brian Williams.
