March 8, 2007 — Dr. Maya Angelou was so moved by Montgomery Gentry's song and video, "Some People Change," that she invited them on her "Oprah & Friends" radio show yesterday to talk about it. Dr. Angelou said she loves Montgomery Gentry's music because of the heart she hears in it, and Eddie Montgomery said that's what it's all about for the duo. "My mom and dad played music, and my dad talked about how music could be the cure-all for everything," he said. "Whether you're down, or you're sick, music's always been around to help heal."

Troy Gentry said that the song "Some People Change" has been one of those healing songs for a lot of people, which is what the duo hoped for when they recorded it. "When I heard it, I thought, there are a lot of good people out there who have been able to dig deep inside themselves and pull away from their troubles to become better people," Troy said. "It was a good message for us to tell everybody about."

If you missed Montgomery Gentry's visit, you can catch it on XM Satellite Radio Channel 156 at 11 p.m. tonight and this weekend at 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m., 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday. (All times ET.)

Additionally, during Dr. Angelou's May 21 visit to Nashville, Eddie and Troy will be joined onstage at TPAC's Jackson Hall by the Fisk Jubilee Singers for a special opening performance of the song. "When we learned she was coming to Nashville to speak, Troy and I immediately jumped at the opportunity to be a part of this amazing event," Eddie said.
