March 29, 2007 Rodney Atkins spent his birthday celebrating his No. 1 hit, "Watching You," and platinum album, If You're Going Through Hell, at a party on Music Row yesterday, which he said was "better than a new bicycle at 10 years old."
Rodney tells Dial-Global that although "Watching You" is the first song he's written that went to the top of the charts, the real star is his son, Elijah. In fact, lately, the little boy has been getting more attention in public than his dad.
"We were in Taco Bell the other day and somebody recognized him: 'That's the buckaroo kid right there, that's him.' And then they recognized me," Rodney says. "They came up and asked if they could take a picture with Elijah and he said, 'Well, sure. Let me finish my taco first.'
"Then we were in Sears, and some more people came up and wanted to take pictures with the buckaroo kid. And I think we might have even stopped at the co-op for some dog food and somebody recognized us. It was like three stops in that day, and Elijah finally looked at me and said, 'Daddy, we got fans everywhere don't we? All over the world.'"
