April 26, 2007 — Kellie Pickler experienced a special moment performing at the Grand Ole Opry Saturday when she sang her current Top 25 single, "I Wonder," a song she wrote about her mother.
Sitting on the edge of the Opry stage with a simple introduction of, "This song is very special to me. It's one that I wrote to my mother," Kellie earned a standing ovation at the song's end. "I never thought in a million years this was even a possibility," she said.
"I Wonder" is drawn from Kellie's experience of being abandoned by her mother as a child. Kellie was left to wonder if her mom ever thought about her or would even recognize her.
In addition to "I Wonder," Kellie opened the show with "9 To 5," a tribute to her idol Dolly Parton, and then performed her first hit, "Red High Heels." She also sang "Things That Never Cross a Man's Mind," another song from her gold debut album, Small Town Girl.
Kellie takes these songs and more on the road beginning tonight in Chattanooga, where she opens for Brad Paisley's Bonfires & Amplifiers tour.
