June 2, 2008 — Sugarland picked up two trophies for its powerful ballad "Stay" a couple weeks ago at the Academy of Country Music Awards and debuted the new single, the bouncy "All I Want To Do," on the same show.
The energy level for the two songs is 180 degrees different, though the duo sees some similarities.
"We really wanted to do something that was a summer song, that felt summery and light and flirty and yet had a lot of raw energy in it — much like, from a production standpoint, where we left off with the last record on ‘Stay,’" Jennifer Nettles explains. "We wanted to take some of that energy, but take it a completely different direction, which we did. This one’s fun and playful."
"You can dance to this one," Kristian Bush observes.
"Yeah," Jennifer agrees, "and nobody cries."
The listening audience is appreciative. "All I Want To Do" debuted at No. 27 in the Billboard country chart, the highest first-week position in Sugarland’s career. Jennifer and Kristian bring their summer single to the CMA Music Festival on Thursday. They play Nashville’s LP Field on the event’s opening night, along with Jewel, Montgomery Gentry, Taylor Swift and Kellie Pickler.
