Ace Songwriters Join "The Next GAC Star"

June 5, 2008 — Two of the most successful songwriters in contemporary music, Desmond Child and Victoria Shaw, have signed on as judges in the new GAC talent competition "The Next GAC Star."

Desmond and Victoria may not be household names outside of music circles, but their creations are intimately familiar. Desmond’s had songs recorded by LeAnn Rimes, Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks in addition to such pop hits as Aerosmith’s "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)," Bon Jovi’s "Livin’ On A Prayer" and "You Give Love A Bad Name" and Ricky Martin’s "Livin’ La Vida Loca." Victoria’s authored Garth’s "The River," John Michael Montgomery’s "I Love The Way You Love Me" and Doug Stone’s "Too Busy Being In Love." She’s also a co-producer of the debut album by Lady Antebellum.

Online voting for The Next GAC Star has already opened with the public voting on material from the competitors before it heads to the judges’ panel. Ultimately, a dozen artists will be given the opportunity to perform on a two-part special this fall that determines the winner, who will receive a recording contract and a video that airs on GAC.

"Leave it to GAC to create a contest with fierce competition where we judges look for someone with the total package: looks, talent and the ‘it’ factor," Victoria says. "The contestants better be prepared to impress an outspoken redhead on the panel of judges. GAC might never be the same again!"
