July 24, 2008 — Alan Jackson is at No. 1 on the national country singles charts with "Good Time," a song that made him a little bit antsy.

The song’s chorus is a rapid-fire celebration of the weekend, and with its current success, Alan pretty much has to do it in his concert set. He concedes it’s a challenge.

"The first time we started workin’ that thing live, I thought, ‘Man, I don’t know if we’ll get those words out,’" he laughs. "After you do it [a few times], it comes pretty natural. I always thought it would make a good contest on radio — get people to call in and see if they can say that line, you know, ‘I been workin’ all week/And I’m tired and I don’t wanna sleep/I wanna have fun/It’s time for a good time.’ It’s like two all beef patties special sauce lettuce cheese pickles onions on a sesame seed bun."

Alan hasn’t quite approached the "billions sold" claim that accompanies that old hamburger-ad slogan, but he’s done all right in the marketplace. Arista Records announced this week that Alan’s moved more than 50 million albums in his career. A good time indeed.
