July 24, 2008 — Bucky Covington’s current single, "I’ll Walk," starts out very quietly — just Bucky with a piano and fiddle in the background — and it’s a great showcase for his voice. It’s also a song that made him extremely nervous.

"I’m scared of a slow song," Bucky confessed on the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "I was scared to do one on ‘[American] Idol,’ and I’m still scared to do one. To me, if the crowd don’t just jump up, go crazy, it almost seems like, well, they don’t dig it. A live song — especially slow songs — when you do it live, if you’ve never heard it on the radio before, will then put me to sleep. ‘I’ll Walk’ was really weird because, you know, I get the cell phones [in the air] and everything, and the crowd really responded well to the song. It was left-field to me, so I was like, you know if it does this well live, it’s gotta do well on the radio."

Sure enough, "I’ll Walk" keeps moving forward. It landed in the Top 30 this week on the Country Aircheck singles chart.

Bucky also appears this weekend on GAC’s CMA Celebrity Closeup. Hosted by Lorianne Crook, it features additional interviews — shot in front of a live audience at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium — with Sara Evans, Joe Nichols and Jake Owen. The episode debuts Saturday at 9 p.m. ET. Click here to watch a clip from the show!
