Aug. 6, 2008 When Dolly Parton performed at the historic Greek Theatre in Hollywood this weekend, she couldnt help laughing about one of Tinsel Towns favorite obsessions: celebrity-watching.
Dollys had her name in the headlines at the grocery-store check-out stand plenty of times in her career, so she knows the effects public gossip can have on a psyche. And shes also smart enough not to take any of it too seriously.
"Poor little Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan," she said from the stage, according to E! Online. "Ain't it awful? If those little girls slept with as many men as they say in the tabloids, why their little butts would have more fingerprints than the FBI!"
Once the laughter died down, she added a note of sympathy: "I kinda feel sorry for them. We should give those two a break."
Dolly did not give herself a break, though, laughing at her current status as the onscreen aunt of Miley Cyrus in the Disney Channels "Hannah Montana."
"A lot of little kids come up to me and say, 'Aunt Dolly!'" she noted. "And I say, 'Would you little girls like an autograph?' And they say, 'Oh yes! When you see Miley, please get us one!'"
Dolly remains in the western half of the U.S. throughout the week. Shes in Portland, Ore., on Thursday; Seattle on Friday; and Denver on Saturday.
