Sept. 5, 2008 — J.C. Andersen wears his father’s dog tags for a bit of good luck, and he’s hoping they pay off in the talent competition The Next GAC Star. J.C. is one of six finalists who performed on this week’s semi-finals en route to next Wednesday’s big crowning moment.

"I saw so many amazing videos and great talent, and I don’t know why [voters] would’ve chosen mine," he told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "I’m still astonished. And maybe the way that we conveyed the storyline about what happened in the video, that might’ve touched a few people. At least I would hope so."

J.C. draws from Keith Urban and Nickel Creek among a long list of influences, and if his dog tags bring him ultimate luck, he’ll put what he’s learned from them to use through a recording contract with Original Signal Records. His competition includes Tyler Barham, Megan Conner, Angela Engelman, One Night Rodeo and Lane Turner.

All the contestants perform under the watchful eyes of three judges with a keen understanding of the music business: Jack Ingram is one of country’s top current hitmakers; Victoria Shaw has co-written hits for Garth Brooks and John Michael Montgomery, and she co-produces Lady Antebellum; and Desmond Child has songwriting credits on tracks by LeAnn Rimes, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and Trisha Yearwood.

The winner of The Next GAC Star will be announced during the final telecast on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET.
