Trace Adkins at the Nightly Concert on the Vault Concert Stage LP Field Saturday, June 7 in Downtown Nashville during the 2008 CMA Music Festival.

Oct. 10, 2008 — Trace Adkins and Lynyrd Skynyrd will lead the party in two different states when it comes time to lift champagne glasses and welcome 2009.

They’re set to perform in Nashville and in Pikeville, Ky., on New Year’s Eve with each act closing in one city, then passing the other in flight to headline the show in the other city. AEG Live, the promoter, did not indicate which artist is headlining in which city. Pikeville’s date is scheduled for the Eastern Kentucky Expo Center, while Music City’s concert will take place at the Sommet Center, which began ringing in the New Year with country acts when the venue opened in 1996.

Among the artists who’ve appeared at those year-end Nashville shows are Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Toby Keith, Willie Nelson, the Dixie Chicks and Kenny Chesney. Trace was an opening act two years ago when Brooks & Dunn headlined the 2006 Sommet closer.

Tickets for the events go on sale Oct. 18. In the meantime, Trace has a chance to pad his career stats at the Sommet Center Nov. 12. He’s nominated for Single and Music Video of the Year, for "You’re Gonna Miss This," at "The 42nd Annual CMA Awards".
