Jan. 5, 2009 — Diamond Rio is once again revving up its fan-based charity wing, Team Rio, with hopes of raising more than $100,000 for charity through the annual Country Music Marathon.

With Arby’s serving as a sponsor, Team Rio has its first meeting for the season Saturday at D1 Sports in Cool Springs, outside of Nashville. Lead singer Marty Roe and guitarist Jimmy Olander have traditionally run the 13-mile half-marathon with the team, accruing funds for the mentoring organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee.

"If you have friends thinking about some healthy resolutions and wanting to give back to the community, we're the perfect fit!" Team Rio told prospective members in a year-end e-mail.

This year’s Country Music Marathon is set for April 25 in Nashville. The event will also feature a major post-race concert the same night at the Sommet Center downtown. In previous years, performers have included Sara Evans, Lady Antebellum, Phil Vassar, Martina McBride and Brad Paisley.
