Great Places to Stay: Gaylord Opryland Resort

With 2,881 guest rooms, 600,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space, two outdoor swimming pools, an 18-hole golf course, a dozen restaurants and bars and four glass atriums housing nine acres of indoor gardens, this extravagant hotel and entertainment complex in Music Valley is really more like a small town than a hotel. And while the supersized resort scene might not be everyone's cup of tea, there's no better place to immerse yourself in the country-music-theme-park side of Nashville, with the 4,400-seat Grand Ole Opry conveniently located next door.

The guest rooms, including 200 suites, come in various configurations and price levels in the mid to upper $200's. Several package deals are offered, such as "A Night at the Opry" package that combines accommodations with tickets to the famous radio show.

When budgeting for your trip, keep in mind that additional charges are likely to pile up here, including $10 a day to park your car, and a mandatory "resort fee" (currently $10 per room, per night) that covers in-room Internet access, local phone calls, daily newspaper delivery, access to the fitness and spa center and shuttle transportation around the resort.
