Great Places to Stay: Courtyard by Marriott

This three-star chain hotel is a good deal for travelers who want to stay in the West End district near Vanderbilt University. The accommodations are nicer than the selection of ordinary motels in the area, and it's far more affordable than the high-end Loews Vanderbilt Plaza.

The eight-story building has 216 rooms in various configurations, including units with one king bed and a foldout sofa, two queen beds or two double beds. Seven two-bedroom suites are available as well. The property also has a small fitness center and an outdoor swimming pool. Numerous dining options are within easy walking distance.

Double rates range from $94 to about $250 per night. Discounts are offered for seniors, AAA members and military and government employees.
