August 31, 2007 Rascal Flatts have grown up. You can hear it on their fifth album, Still Feels Good,, out September 25 on Lyric Street Records.
"I think it's the best work we've ever done," says bassist-singer Jay DeMarcus. "It solidifies the fact that we are three serious musicians who care so much about the art of making records, and that we are a legitimate band and not some fabricated boy pop band that we've been criticized for being so many times in the past."
Still Feels Good, which features the same hooky melodies and strong lyrical content that has driven the band to the top, is the follow-up to last year's Me and My Gang, which sold four million copies and was the biggest-selling album of 2006 in any genre. Jay says it was somewhat scary following up such a big record, but then, "We've been able to grow with each step we've made, which has been a huge blessing. We don't really put the pressure on ourselves to outdo what we've already done. We just try to keep our heads down and make the best music we can, and we're very proud of this album."
As on the last record, both Jay and guitarist Joe Don Rooney play on every cut behind lead vocalist Gary LeVox. The first single, "Take Me There," counts Kenny Chesney as the first of three writers, with Wendell Mobley and Neil Thrasher.
