'Tis the Season to sing holiday tunes! We asked Country Music Across America host Storme Warren to pick his Top 10 favorite holiday songs...and here they are!
1. "O Holy Night"--Martina McBride and John Berry
Two definitive country versions of this classic come from John Berry and Martina McBride. It's my favorite Christmas song and these two both knock it out of the park.
2. "12 Redneck Days of Christmas"--Jeff Foxworthy
I've heard this song 9,000 times and I laugh every time. Only Jeff can work the words "Mustang GT" into a Christmas song.
3. "Milk and Cookies"--Clint Black
I single this song out from Clint's Christmas CD because it's my kid's favorite Christmas song. But this album is a must-have. Every song sounds like it's a classic, even though Clint co-wrote each tune just a few years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if this album doesn't become the most lasting project of Clint's career. It's an amazing collection.
4. "Christmas Time Down South"--Charlie Daniels
Charlie's voice sounds like Santa Claus himself. He looks like him, too! Another great collection of songs. It's hard to single out just one from this CD.
5. "A Sailor's Christmas"--Jimmy Buffett
When I feel the need to warm up the season a bit, I toss this song into the mix. Jimmy's tropical take on Christmas is a refreshing twist to the holidays.
6. "12 days of Christmas"--John Denver and The Muppets
I wore this song out as a kid. I've now handed it down to my children. Miss Piggy's "Five gooolddden rings......ba dum bum bum!" is hysterical. It's the best version of this song ever.
7. "The Christmas Song"--Mel Torme
I've heard this song recorded by dozens of artists, but it's hard to beat the original. It makes you wonder who is going to write the next "Christmas classic." It's been a while.
8. "O Come All Ye Faithful"--Vince Gill
Vince's voice was built for Christmas music. Cracklin' fire, glass of wine, kids asleep. His Christmas albums are the perfect soundtrack for winding down from a hectic holiday.
9. "Christmas Time Is Here"--Vince Guaraldi (Charlie Brown Christmas)
It's just not Christmas without this song and Linus' speech about the meaning of the season.
10. "Carol of the Bells"--Mannheim Steamroller
There's a Christmas tree at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. Each night, the tree comes to life to this song. It's an amazing display that never gets old. Silver Dollar City is one of the most magical places to ring in the season.
