• Feb. 7, 1962 Garth is born in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

• June 17, 1988 He signs his first recording contract, with Capitol Records.

• April 12, 1989 His self-titled debut album is released.

• June 24, 1989 He makes his Grand Ole Opry debut.

• Aug. 2, 1990 The Garth Brooks CD becomes his first gold album.

• Aug. 27, 1990 The No Fences album is released.

• Oct. 6, 1990 Garth officially joins the Grand Ole Opry, performing "Friends In Low Places,"
"If Tomorrow Never Comes" and "The Dance."

• Nov. 30, 1990 No Fences is certified for shipments of 2 million copies, the first of
numerous multi-platinum albums in his career.

• April 24, 1991 Garth wins a record-setting six times during the Academy of Country Music awards
in California.

• Oct. 2, 1991 Garth receives the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year trophy for
the first time. He walks off with a total of four honors during the evening.

• Nov. 8, 1991 In a first-ever event, the Ropin' The Wind album is simultaneously
certified gold, platinum, double-, triple- and quadruple-platinum two months after
its release.

• Jan. 17, 1992 NBC presents his first national TV special, "This Is Garth Brooks."

• March 2, 1992 He appears on the cover of Forbes magazine alongside the
headline "Led Zeppelin Meets Roy Rogers."

• March 14, 1992 He makes his first appearance as the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live."

• March 30, 1992 He makes the cover of Time magazine.

• July 8, 1992 Garth becomes a daddy for the first time with the birth of Taylor Mayne Pearl Brooks.

• Sept. 22, 1992 Capitol releases his album The Chase.

• April 1, 1993 Garth appears on the cover of Rolling Stone.

• May 4, 1993 No Fences becomes the first country album to ship 10 million copies.

• Aug. 31, 1993 Garth's In Pieces album is released.

• March 30, 1994 He plays Dublin, Ireland, with the launch of his first European tour.

• May 3, 1994 Daughter August Anna makes her appearance, forcing Garth to skip the ACM
awards, where he’s named Entertainer of the Year.

• June 30, 1995 Garth receives a star in front of the Capitol Records building on the Hollywood Walk
of Fame. He buries the masters for his album The Hits underneath the
pavement.

• Nov. 21, 1995 The Fresh Horses album is released.

• July 28, 1996 Daughter Allie Colleen Brooks is born.

• Aug. 7, 1997 Garth gives a free concert in New York’s Central Park that airs as an HBO special.
Garth supporters announce from the stage that 1 million people are in attendance;
city police say the number is closer to 200,000.

• Nov. 25, 1997 Capitol releases the album Sevens.
