May 23, 2006--Last Thursday night, Van Zant's Johnny Van Zant, who is also the lead singer for Lynyrd Skynyrd, underwent an emergency operation at Stanford University Hospital for appendicitis and the surgery was successful. Since Johnny is recovering, he and his brother Donnie Van Zant will not be attending the ACM Awards tomorrow, where Van Zant is nominated for Duo of the Year.
