June 27, 2006--Today's the day Julie Roberts' sophomore CD, Men & Mascara, hits stores. Julie tells chron.com she's very excited about its release--and hopes it will succeed her self-titled gold debut. "I want this one to take me places that my first one didn't," says Julie, "and my first one took me so many places that I never thought a girl from South Carolina could go."
Julie tells the website she's been working hard to help make that happen. She's been touring constantly, honing her writing skills, taking voice lessons and exercising relentlessly to stay in shape. "I want to do this for the rest of my life," she says. "Before I moved [to Nashville] and started working for the label (Julie was Mercury Records' president Luke Lewis' assistant before being discovered), I was singing at theme parks--which I loved because I was singing--but I wanted to be making records. Before that I was scanning groceries. I scanned groceries for two years, and I definitely don't want to go back to doing that."
Julie's new single from Men & Mascara is "Girl Next Door." Click here for more on Julie, who's GAC's June Artist of the Month!
