October 9, 2006--Allaboutcountry.com reports that Alabama will release its first album in five years--and its first-ever gospel album--on Wednesday, October 11 at 7 p.m. Eastern. Songs of Inspiration will be sold during a broadcast live from Nashville.

Packaged especially for QVC, Songs of Inspiration will be accompanied by a six-track bonus CD and will be available nearly two full weeks before the street release date, October 24th. Alabama will perform a selection of inspirational songs during the broadcast, pulled from such tracks as "Rock of Ages," "How Great Thou Art," and "Amazing Grace." The band also recorded two original songs for the album, entitled "One Big Heaven" and "Rain."

"These are songs that we grew up listening to as little kids," said Alabama front man Randy Owen. "They've been 'hits' for hundreds of years, and our hope was to just carry them along in the same tradition. They'll be around long after we're gone, and I hope what we did with these songs will fit in somewhere in a good spot in history."
