October 23, 2006--Country legend George Jones fractured his right wrist last Friday, October 20. George was going into his producers (Keith Stegall) studio to sing a part on his daughter, Georgette Jones new record. He didnt notice the awning support over the front door and hit it, falling backwards down a couple of stairs and hitting the cement walkway. George broke his fall with his right hand and fractured his wrist.
The 75-year-old performer was scheduled to leave Nashville a few hours later to perform in concert in Murray, Kentucky. That show and two others scheduled last weekend in Cumming, Georgia and the Columbia S.C. State Fair on Sunday were cancelled.
George was treated at the Baptist Hospital Emergency Room in Nashville where his wrist was x-rayed and he received a cat scan to ensure that he received no head injury when he fell to the concrete. He was taken to orthopedic surgeon Jane Siegel of the Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance. Dr. Siegel determined the singer needed surgery to make sure his wrist heals properly, which is scheduled for Monday, October 23.
Following the cancellation of this weekends shows, George had fortunately scheduled a little break before his 12-city northeast tour beginning at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Halloween night. The Country Music Hall of Famer is also releasing a new CD on Tuesday, October 24, Kickin' Out The Footlights?Again, a duet project with Merle Haggard.
