November 8, 2006--Countrynation.com reports that in an effort to break (or set) the Guiness Book of World Records for the largest songwriting collaboration on a country tune, Country Music Across America's Storme Warren and hit writer Monty Powell recruited over 60 stars on the CMA red carpet to write a completely orginal song one line at a time.
The website reports that in just over two hours, the lyrics fell into place like a light bulb shattering on concrete. "It's interesting, to say the least" says Storme.
Artists such as Kenny Chesney, Randy Owen, Alan Jackson, Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood treated the task seriously, while others like Billy Ray Cyrus ("I picked my lice") and Rascal Flatts' Jo Don Rooney ("The Entertainer win was nice") took a more tongue in cheek approach.
As for the song's general theme, Powell says, "There isn't one. It's like freakin' herding cats!"
Powell finished the song and recorded the demo Tuesday afternoon. LeAnn Rimes has voiced interest in recording the song and Martina McBride offered to help her out. Brad Paisley offered the one line that helped define the purpose of the song, "someday we will find a cure".
All proceeds from the upcoming auction of the autographed lyric book will benefit the T.J. Martell foundation for cancer research. The auction will take place at the 13th annual Country in the Rockies event at the end of January next year.
Asked if they actually broke the record, Storme responded, "I guarantee we broke something."
