December 8, 2006 Lonestar lead singer Richie McDonald couldn't make it to a show this week in Corpus Christi. Instead he was in a Nashville hospital suffering from complications due to recent back surgery. But, as the saying goes, "the show must go on," and it did with singer Josh Gracin taking Richie's place on lead vocals. The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports that with only a few hours to practice several of the group's hit songs, Josh took the stage Wednesday night and performed alongside the band at the American Bank Center to an estimated crowd of 3,500.
"We had a couple of shows coming up and Josh was on the bill with us," Lonestar's Dean Sams said later, "and when we told him about our situation, he said, 'Hey, I've been a Lonestar fan since I was a kid! I could fill in for Richie on the shows we have together.' The first thing I said was, 'That'd be great,' and then I said, 'OK, let's not bring up that kid thing again.'"
