February 12, 2007 A movie is being made of Charley Pride's life, and the actor who will be playing him is studying hard to get the part right. The Tennessean reports that actor Terrence Howard, who will portray Charlie, stayed totally focused on him last Thursday at the Grammy Foundation's "The Soul of Country" event. While chatting with Charley, Terrence stared at his face, studying Charley's every gesture.
Terrence says that while some blacks considered Charley to be a sellout for pursuing a country music career, "he was actually doing what we were supposed to be doing: expanding into new frontiers. That took a lot of courage."
Terrence says he was offered three roles at the same time: Charley Pride, Bob Marley and Rick James. "Out of the three, the one I love the most," says Terrence, who then started singing Charley's hit, "Kiss an Angel Good Morning."
Terrence, who gained prominence with his roles in Crash and Hustle and Flow says of his upcoming role, "I am ready and so excited."
