February 12, 2007 Newcomer Jake Owen didn't always want to be a country music star. He originally wanted to play professional golf, but a water skiing accident ended that dream. Looking back, Jake tells Dial-Global he realizes that Plan B was his true passion all along.
"I don't know if I ever really wanted golf to be a part of my life as much as I want music to be," he says "There was always doubt like in my mind about golf. I knew I was good, but I was always like, 'Am I good enough? Am I good enough to play?' And I had scholarships to play golf, but I don't know if I enjoyed it as much as every time I pick up my guitar and start playing and singing. It just feels so good. It makes me happy to play. I've never, since the day I moved here, doubted myself at all."
Jake's decision to put down his golf clubs and pick up a guitar was a good one. He already has a hit with "Yee Haw," and his current single, "Startin' with Me" is moving up the charts.
