March 13, 2007 — Although he never expected to find himself performing on the Grand Ole Opry stage, John Waite tells the Indianapolis Star that he was thrilled to make his debut there last weekend. Two Opry appearances with Alison Krauss were part of his promotional push for a new version of "Missing You" — his career-defining hit from 1984 — recorded with Alison.

John, who climbed the pop charts as a member of the Babys in the 1970s and as a member of Bad English in the late '80s, says, "Country has taken over for what we used to call rock 'n' roll," he says. "It's the only form of music that has a backbeat and is innovative. It's great American music."

John also had high praise for Alison. "Working with that caliber of musicianship and someone who has a good heart, it's a really great experience," he says.

John says he prefers the new version of "Missing You" to the original, citing a "heartbreak" that Alison brings to the recording. "Now we're listening to two people talking down the telephone, saying they don't love each other and they're doing just fine," he says. "To me, it's almost a new song completely."

Alison's upcoming compilation, A Hundred Miles or More, will feature "Missing You" plus a second duet with Waite — a cover of Don Williams' "Lay Down Beside Me."
