April 2, 2007 Rascal Flatts has set a September 25 release for its fifth, as-yet-untitled Lyric Street/Hollywood album. Producer Dann Huff will produce the follow-up to 2006's smash hit Me and My Gang, which has sold 3.8 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
"As songwriters, we'd all love to have multiple cuts on our records it would be a wonderful thing," Jay DeMarcus told Billboard recently about the factors that have contributed to the group's success on radio. "But, at the end of the day, you have to cut music that is simply, bar none, hit music, no matter who writes it or who contributes to it. You gotta put your ego aside and say, 'This is the best song for Rascal Flatts to cut at this point in time.'"
"And I think because we have made that commitment, it has allowed us to have success on radio with hit songs," he continued. "If you get to the point where you are so arrogant to think you can write every song on your record and they're all gonna be hits, you're in trouble."
Rascal Flatts has four more spring dates on tap through early April before getting busy in the studio. Two shows are already scheduled for early August in Stateline, Nev.
