April 19, 2007 Country fans first got to know Army veteran Craig Morgan as much for his military background as for his music. Now in his eighth year as a recording artist, Craig is celebrating life and his second nomination as the Academy of Country Music's Top New Male Vocalist.
Fans will get to know him even better when he sits down with GAC's Lorianne Crook for an episode of "Academy of Country Music and GAC Present?Craig Morgan," premiering on Saturday, April 28 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
"In the past, I was the singing soldier guy, and that's okay" Craig says. "I am proud of that, but I'm not a full-time soldier anymore. I am a country music singer and songwriter."
Craig credits his military career with helping him put his life into perspective. "It gave me a different appreciation not just for living, but all of the simple things in life: going home and being able to visit with your family, spending five minutes hugging your kids, telling your buddy you love him," he says.
It's been a long road to stardom for Craig, whose former jobs include dairy manager at a Wal-Mart store. "But I was happy and I had fun at my job," he says. "When I was in the Army, it was fun. Life is just too short not to have fun and make fun."
