June 22, 2007 Billy Currington may have just received his first platinum CD, but he still hasn't played the arena he helped build, Country Weekly reports.
While celebrating the platinum success of his sophomore CD, Doin' Somethin' Right, last week, Billy recalled the six tough years before he got his record deal. Those were times when he was not only pouring his heart into his music, but pouring concrete to pay the bills including during the construction of Nashville's Sommet Arena (formerly the Gaylord Entertainment Center).
"I look at the arena and I think how I'd love to play there," he revealed. "I poured the concrete while it was being built. It would be cool to walk up on that stage and look around and think about all those long hours and late nights working until two in the morning."
This week, Billy had to miss a No. 1 party for his single, "Good Directions," after a doctor ordered him not to use his voice for a month. He has canceled all appearances and a scheduled video shoot. He is expected to resume his normal schedule toward the end of July.
