July 13, 2007 Kellie Pickler recently got a break from her travels with Brad Paisley's Bonfires & Amplifiers tour, and she took the opportunity to adopt an orange kitten with big blue eyes she found through a classified ad.
"It's the cutest little thing," Kellie told the Huntington, W.Va., Herald Dispatch. "I called my manager just a little bit ago and said, 'You're never gonna believe what I've done now. I've adopted.'"
Kellie said she allowed the joke to run its course before revealing the whole story. "I guess that's one thing American Idol didn't show about me," she said. "I've always loved playing jokes on people."
Brad Paisley, also a noted prankster, learned about her penchant for practical jokes last month when she and touring mates Taylor Swift and Jack Ingram surprised him onstage during "Ticks" dressed as giant ticks and an exterminator.
"I'm a little worried because I know he's gonna try to get me back," she said. "I think he'll try something in Charlotte, but I'll be ready for him. He can't mess with me in my hometown."
Kellie is still beaming about a recent trip to Nunavut, the far-northern Canadian territory, with her boyfriend Jordin Tootoo, the Inuit right winger for the NHL Nashville Predators.
Every day brought a new adventure, she said, as she learned about the Inuit way of living off the land, hunting, ice fishing, eating whale blubber and raw caribou.
"The people there were amazing. I felt so welcome," she said. "It was such a new experience for me, and I cherish it. I think everyone should get a chance to experience different cultures and different places. You learn a lot about yourself that way, too."
