August 6, 2007 Fourteen years after leaving Tennessee Tech, Rodney Atkins was awarded his college degree without even opening a textbook. Though the psychology major was just a few credits short of completion, under Tennessee Tech University's new major, Interdisciplinary Studies, he had actually qualified for completion of enough credits to receive the degree.
"I think going to college was definitely a benefit to me (even before getting my degree)," says Rodney, "but it's very satisfying to finally have the degree in hand especially after paying back all those student loans!"
Rodney was presented with his degree during last week's performance at the Rodney Atkins Celebrity Golf Classic held in Cookeville, Tenn.
In other Rodney news, the singer has started work on a new album and he tells Dial-Global that the success of the new album depends on the writers. "The writer of 'These Are My People' and 'Going Through Hell' called the other day and said, 'What are you looking for to record for this next album?' And I said, 'Just four weeks life-changing No. 1 songs.' That's what we're looking for. So, the challenge is up to those guys."
