August 14, 2007 During a recent show in Columbus, Ohio, Gary Allan's backstage area got a little wild literally, Dial-Global reports.
Gary's bus driver is a longtime friend of Jack Hanna of the Columbus zoo, and he arranged for the zoo to deliver several wildlife species backstage as a surprise for Gary and his bandmates. Gary was especially charmed by the miniature Chilean Pink Flamingo, a breed that is most comfortable in a flock and was quite at home in the crowded green room backstage.
Another band favorite was the seven-week-old Cloud leopard, which favors climbing trees. The tiny leopard immediately climbed to the top of Gary's road manager's head, where he remained perched for some time.
"Some say being on the road is like zoo, but we typically don't travel with baby leopards," Gary said. "Jack and his crew have always been great to us."
Gary's latest single, "Watching Airplanes," is flying up the charts and his upcoming studio album is scheduled for an October release.
