September 19, 2007 Kenny Rogers will be honored with the prestigious Golden Note Award during the 45th Annual ASCAP Country Music Awards ceremony on October 15 in Nashville.
The ASCAP Golden Note Award is presented to songwriters, composers and artists who have achieved outstanding career milestones. Previous honorees have included Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Tom Petty, André Previn, Michael W. Smith, Stevie Wonder and others. The gala event from Nashville's Ryman Auditorium will also honor the songwriters and publishers of ASCAP's most performed country songs of the year.
Kenny has been a major force in recording since the 1970s, with songs like "The Gambler," "Lady," "She Believes in Me" and his duet with Dolly Parton on "Islands in the Stream," all of which were hits on both the country and pop charts.
Marilyn Bergman, president and chairman of ASCAP, said, "Kenny is an artist who has recorded one classic after another, time and time again. His distinctively easy way with a lyric enhances each song's emotional impact. We are delighted to honor him with the ASCAP Golden Note Award, which he so richly deserves."
