November 27, 2007 Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss, Wynonna and Alabama's Randy Owen are among the country artists whose signatures adorn the guitar dubbed "An Instrument of Hope," currently up for auction on eBay.
Almost a year and a half later ago, First Act, the world's largest manufacturer of entry-level instruments for children, and S.I.R. Nashville, a full-service music equipment rental and production facility, began asking a few high-profile artists to autograph a First Act guitar to benefit the kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Now, with a total of 23 signatures, including those of Robert Plant, John Waite, Michael McDonald and T-Bone Burnett, the one-of-a-kind instrument is up for auction, and 100 percent of the final sale price will go to St. Jude.
The guitar itself is a First Act MG531 NT acoustic/electric cutaway with mahogany back and sides, a spruce top and on-board electronics. Retail value of the instrument alone is more than $400. Go to ebay.com to check it out.
