February 6, 2008 Willie Nelson has long distrusted the establishment, and that doubt found its way into a national radio talk show on Monday when he told the host he believes the World Trade Center was imploded on Sept. 11, 2001.
Willie was a guest on the syndicated "Alex Jones Show," an Austin-based program that specializes in conspiracy theories. In the weeks prior to the attack, Willie had seen TV footage of a Las Vegas hotel being razed, and noticed the eerie similarities of the images.
"I saw one [tower] fall, and it was just so symmetrical," he recalled on the show. "I said, 'Wait a minute. I just saw that last week at the casino in Las Vegas, and you see these implosions all the time.' And the next one fell, and I said, 'Hell, there's another one.' And they're trying to tell me that an airplane did it, and I can't go along with that."
Willie also suggested that America's attacks of Afghanistan and Iraq might have been misdirected.
"When I get hit, I like to look around and see who did it before I start swinging at everybody in the room, and that's kind of what we're doing," he said. "We get hit over here, and then next thing you know we're jumping on everybody in the town. So [if] we got hit from Saudi Arabia, I think we've got some questions that need to be answered from those folks."
The remarks might come back to haunt him in April. Willie will tape the "Comedy Central Roast of Willie Nelson" in Los Angeles April 17. It's slated to air in June.
