Sept. 16, 2008 — Last Tuesday, Patty Loveless released an entire album of remakes titled Sleepless Nights. This Tuesday, she’s on yet another covers album, doing a new version of "Silver Springs," a song that appeared on the 1997 Fleetwood Mac album The Dance.

This track is part of a multi-artist release, The Imus Ranch Record, in which Don Imus enlisted Randy Travis, Willie Nelson and Dwight Yoakam, among others, to do new versions of classic material. Proceeds from the CD are earmarked to aid children with cancer.

Imus "had already sent me one song, and I turned it down," Patty told the Associated Press. "When he sent me this one, I said I'd try to do it. It's so far from anything that I've done. I felt like this might be a little bit of a challenge."

"Silver Springs" was written by the Mac’s Stevie Nicks and introduced on the B-side of "Go Your Own Way," a Lindsey Buckingham-penned title which has been performed in country concerts in recent years by both Little Big Town and Sara Evans. Stevie also wrote "Landslide," which became a country hit for the Dixie Chicks.

"To some extent, Stevie has a tendency to write lyrics that sort of sound like country songs," Patty observed. "They're very beautiful poetry."

Sleepless Nights features updated versions of songs first made famous by George Jones, Hank Williams and the Everly Brothers, among others. Patty is also GAC's September Fan Focus.
