Taylor Swift Draws on Rejection

Sept. 25, 2008 — Taylor Swift may have made People magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful People list this year, but she still feels like a self-conscious school girl who doesn’t quite fit in. And that’s not such a bad thing, since that stance fuels a lot of her material.

"I was an outsider at school," she told The New York Times. "When I go back, I feel like my hair’s frizzy and people are laughing at me. It’s still the middle-school insecurity thing."

Don’t expect much of a change on her Fearless album when it comes out Nov. 11. She built it as a "continuation" of her triple-platinum debut, Taylor Swift, an intentional approach to avoid confusing her legions of fans.

But that’s not to say she won’t change things up in the future.

"Later on there will definitely be a huge temptation for me to make an alt.country record, something edgier and a little darker," she said.

But right now, she knows what works: "songs that can be some sort of consolation for what people my age go through."
