Sept. 30, 2008 Kid Rock got his start in the Motor City in Michigan, but hes also got a home now in the Music City in Tennessee, where he counts Hank Williams Jr. and John Rich among his friends. Considering the rap portion of his musical history, it came as a shock to a number of observers when he showed an affinity for country music, but the Kid says it all made perfect sense to him.
"I've always been fascinated with the South and Southern culture and everything along with it," he told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "One of the things my dad always said, 'You know, if you wanna be a carpenter, don't hang out with a painter.' So I was like, 'Hmmm, Nashville has some of the best musician-songwriters in the world. I think I'll start hanging out down there and maybe learn something.'"
Hes definitely found a home in country music since he started visiting Nashville. He picked up numerous awards nominations for his 2002 duet with Sheryl Crow on "Picture." And hes currently enjoying the first Top 5 country hit of his career with "All Summer Long."
