Jan. 23, 2009 After LeAnn Rimes breakthrough in country music in 1996, pop fans heard her for the first time the following year when she released "How Do I Live."
Many pop listeners heard about her for the second time in 98 when she got namechecked in the Barenaked Ladies hit "One Week" with the lines "Big like LeAnn Rimes/Cause Im all about value." LeAnn was all of 15 years old at the time, and it was pretty heady stuff to get referenced in somebody elses work.
"The funny thing is I still get really giddy when I hear that song," she told the Washington State newspaper The Wenatchee World. "I was on a friend of mine's bed, trying to take a nap, and he had the radio down really, really low. And I popped up off the bed because that song was playing, and I thought I'd heard my name, but I was like, There's no way they put my name in that song! And I heard it later and realized that they had. Pretty cool. I felt like at that time I definitely had arrived."
Strangely enough, Stunt the Barenaked album that featured that song was released on the very same day that LeAnn was certified gold and platinum for an album with the appropriate title Sittin On Top Of The World. She hopes shell be on top of the heap come Feb. 8: Shes nominated in the Grammy Awards for Best Country Female Vocal for her recording "What I Cannot Change."
