Feb. 24, 2009 George Straits June 6 concert to christen the Dallas Cowboys new football stadium is more than just the celebration of a venue: Its also the first time hell work the stage with Reba McEntire in a show of that magnitude.
Its a bit stunning that it took this long. They spent more than 25 years as labelmates at MCA Records, and theyve run into each other scads of times at awards shows.
"Our paths have passed many times at many different places, but the opportunity to do a show together like this has never presented itself," George says. "It's something I've looked forward to for a long, long time."
"George and I always seemed to have parallel paths just because we came out around the same time," Reba adds. "I appreciate that it is special for the fans to see us on the same show, and that makes me want to put on a great show. Plus, being a Cowboys fan for so long, Im thrilled to be a part of the new grand opening."
George and Reba also share another career connection that has some meaning for the Dallas metro area. Early in her career, Reba had a chance to record a well-written song but passed on it because it mentioned alcohol. George picked it up instead and got a No. 1 record with "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind."
