Rodney Atkins performs during the Sprint Sound & Speed Country Concert at the Sommet Center on Friday, January 9, 2009 in Nashville, TN B) Aaron Crisler / Retna Ltd.
May 1, 2009 Rodney Atkins hit No. 1 on the Billboard country singles list this week with "Its America," the title track for his latest album, which could easily have been released without it if fate hadnt intervened.
"When I first heard 'It's America', I had already finished this album," Rodney says. "My drummer played me the song on the road one night, and I knew that it was an important, timeless song that I needed to go back in and record now. It couldn't wait for another album."
Timing, its been said, is everything, and Rodney figured "Its America" had it in spades.
"We were in the middle of everything with the economy, presidential election, folks losing jobs, some tough times in our country," Rodney notes. "This song reminded me about the simple things in life that I cling to when times are good or bad. That's what this album is about, and this song fit that profile perfectly about our country. I love singing about hope, that's what this song is about at its core. I couldn't be more proud."
Later this month, Rodney is set to perform on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" and "The Hannity Show."
