July 18, 2006--Porter Wagoner's daughter Deborah Loy called The Tennessean's Brad Schmitt yesterday to say her dad, Grand Ole Opry star Porter Wagoner, is doing great after surgery last Friday to fix an abdominal aortic aneurism.

Porter will be in intensive care for another day or so and then be in a regular hospital room for several days after that, Deborah says. The aneurism didn't rupture, but it was leaking, causing Porter serious back pain Friday. Paramedics got him to the hospital before the situation was dire.

Deborah says many country singers and Grand Ole Opry family members have called, including Dolly Parton and Little Jimmy Dickens. Family members were encouraged when Porter asked for his watch, his glasses and his cell phone. Nurses declined to return his cell phone, but, Deborah says, "He's smiling. He's doing great."
