January 4, 2007 "American Idol" finalist Bucky Covington has signed with Lyric Street Records in Nashville, joining another "AI" alum, Josh Gracin, at the label. His debut single, "A Different World," will hit country radio on January 16.
Bucky grew up with country music and got his first taste of the stage at age 19 while performing with the country/Southern rock cover band Southern Thunder. In 2006 he became well known while participating in the fifth season of "American Idol," where he performed for millions of viewers each week.
Bucky toured with his fellow contestants over the following summer on a 39-city tour before joining GAC's Country Music Christmas tour lineup. The day after wrapping the GAC tour, he moved to Nashville, where he has been at work recording his first album.
"It's so amazing, what 'American Idol' can do for a singer," Bucky says. "People don't realize that when they pick up the phone to vote they're helping to make someone's dream come true. Now I'm living in Nashville, signed to Lyric Street Records, and getting ready to release my first single and album. Man, it's unbelievable!"
Bucky's album is being produced by Sawyer Brown's Mark Miller and is scheduled for release on April 17.
