January 12, 2007 Naomi Judd hopes her new book will help people get past society's idea of how they should look. Naomi's Guide To Aging Gratefully: Facts, Myths, and Good News for Boomers emphasizes that while we can't control a lot of what happens to us, we can control our reactions to those circumstances.
"I want to do whatever I can to use this book as a bullhorn to talk about the facts and the myths of our boomer generation," Naomi tells The Tennessean. "I'm just really passionate about this because of all the negative media stereotypes. How you feel about aging has more of an effect on how long you're going to live than your blood pressure, your weight, smoking and exercise."
In the book, Naomi cites stress as the least healthy component of many people's lives, especially for women who worry about keeping a perfect image as they age. She hopes the book will encourage people to put down the remote controls and ignore media images of how they should look. Naomi, a former nurse, says she researched the book herself and wrote it all out by hand on a legal pad.
