February 20, 2007 Porter Wagoner played a surprise set before alt-country singer Neko Case's show at the Music Box in the Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood Saturday night. LAist.com reports that many in the audience had no idea what was happening when Porter walked out in a purple rhinestone suit and launched into "A Satisfied Mind" with Neko at his side. Porter and Neko both record for Los Angelesbased Anti Records.
Porter was accompanied by Marty Stuart, who produced his upcoming Wagonmaster album, and on several songs was joined by Dwight Yoakam and actor Billy Bob Thornton, who played the drums on "Satan's River" and "Green Grass of Home." Other numbers included "Rubber Room," "Committed to Parkview" and "Men with Broken Hearts." According to LAist, the set was exhilarating and "for the first time in recent history, Hollywood was rattled by bona fide foot-stomping."
