February 21, 2007 — Dierks Bentley is on the road hundreds of days a year, and that means he sometimes has to be apart from his wife, Cassidy, a situation that inspired him to co-write his current Top 20 single, "Long Trip Alone."

"The song started off about her, and about trying to reconnect," he tells Dial-Globe, "but then it kind of took on the meaning of just all the people that you have in your life. Without them it would be a very long trip on down here on Earth. But by the end of the song, it really became more of a prayer, and that's the way I hear it now. You'll hear it one way, but then if you keep listening to it, the meaning of the song is bigger than you may have initially perceived."

Cassidy does get to accompany Dierks on some of his tour dates. Dierks says it's easier for the couple to be on the same page since Cassidy has experienced "the joy of 16 hours on a tour bus riding home." Now when they return home, he says, they're "both exhausted" and she can understand why he just wants to "sit on the couch all day and night and not move."
