Blake Shelton Defends Reality Stars

In fact, he tells Dial-Global, he's not sure how he'd have fared, but he wouldn't have been above standing in line to try out for "Nashville Star" or "American Idol" himself.

"If you want this bad enough, you do whatever it takes to get there," Blake says. "I've heard a lot of people say reality stars didn't pay any dues. Well, I know a lot of people that are successful right now that did slimier things and that didn't pay their dues also. Some people will roll into town, have a lot of money and buy their way in.

Blake says there's no one set way of how to make it in Nashville. "The thing you've got to remember is once you get that opportunity, however you get that opportunity, that's when you've got to bring it," he says. "That's when you've got to have a great song and some talent and some consistency."
