May 14, 2007 Even though Sugarland's latest Mercury Nashville album, Enjoy the Ride, was only released last fall, singer Jennifer Nettles tells Billboard.com that the duo is already writing material for their next album.
"We started writing and it's much nicer this time," Jennifer says. "Basically, we wrote the last record in about two weeks over the course of three months. We were really under the gun, time-wise. So to have a little bit more time is really a gift. We can be creative and see what we want to be on the album."
While there's no timetable for the next release, there is talk in the Sugarland camp about cutting a holiday-based EP this fall. "We're throwing around a few ideas for possibly something for Christmas, because we've never done that before. Maybe [there are] nontraditional numbers we'd like to throw out there," Jennifer says. "Creatively, the concept is in motion."
Currently, the duo is opening on Kenny Chesney's Flip-Flop Summer tour. Jennifer admits the tour is one big party both onstage and off. "It's so fun," she says. "Kenny really fosters an environment that is playful, young, hip, warm and welcoming. It pretty much feels like summer camp."
